The 2nd Islands Congress will now take place 27-29 January 2027
The 2nd Islands Water Congress, one of the world’s leading forums dedicated specifically to freshwater management on island settings, is co-hosted by IWRA and the Water Resources Authority of Jamaica (WRA). It will be held in Montego Bay, Jamaica under the theme: “Resilient Islands: Securing Water for Sustainable Development in a Changing World.”
After careful deliberation, the co-hosts have revised the dates of the Congress, which will now take place from 27–29 January 2027. This decision was made to maximise opportunities for participation, collaboration and knowledge exchange both at the 2nd Islands Water Congress and across the global island water community.
For instance, the new dates position the Congress to build on the outcomes and commitments generated by the 2026 UN Water Conference. Now taking place several weeks after, the Congress will provide a platform for participants to reflect on emerging priorities, partnerships, and innovations, and explore what they mean in practice for islands and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The revised timing also creates an opportunity to strengthen and amplify island voices in global discussions on the UN stage prior to the Congress.
While dates have changed, the Congress vision remains the same: advancing sustainable and resilient freshwater management for islands worldwide.
We look forward to welcoming participants to Montego Bay, Jamaica, on 27-29 January 2027.
Further information on registration, the technical programme, speakers, field visits and other activities will be shared in the coming weeks.
