The official flagship journal of the Association since 1975.

Published by a major international publisher, Taylor & Francis, on behalf of IWRA, Water International (WI) is a leading source of information on international water resources research and policy. The journal ranks 55/138 in the Civil Engineering category and 56/124 in Water Resources, while its Citation Indicator (JCI) stands at 0.67 for the year 2021.

WI articles and technical notes focus on water management, policy and governance based on rigorous scholarship for a broad, interdisciplinary audience. It ranks 73 / 237 in Water Science and Technology and 117 / 376 in Management, Monitoring, Policy and Law.

IWRA's Mentored Publishing Scheme for Early-Career Professionals

IWRA launched the Publication Mentoring Initiative (PMI) in 2020. The purpose of the initiative is to encourage mentoring of junior water professionals through the development of publishable articles that are accepted for publication by Water International.  Articles produced through this initiative will be researched and written by one or more junior water professionals closely mentored by a senior water professional.
