Amplifying youth voices at the XIX World Water Congress

The Closing Ceremony of the XIX World Water Congress in Marrakech, Morocco, marked a powerful moment of intergenerational dialogue as the IWRA World Water Envoys delivered a collective statement to the global water community.

Standing before water leaders, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners from across the globe, Ally Zlatar, Ayend-Christ Daou, Gettie Shiinda, and Sakar Hada brought forward a clear message: Youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow, but essential partners in addressing the water challenges of today.

  • Share experiences on water challenges from their home regions.
  • Engage and exchange ideas with global experts throughout the World Water Congress.
  • Contribute youth perspectives to global water dialogue through dedicated sessions and activities
  • Bring back new insights, networks, and ideas to strengthen water action in their communities and beyond

IWRA World Water Envoy Statement on Behalf of the Youth:

Why Youth Presence Is Essential in the Water Sector

  1. Creative Awareness & Communication

Young people use creativity, digital storytelling, and the arts to raise awareness and bridge language and cultural barriers in ways traditional approaches cannot.

  1. Investment in Youth-Led Action

Policymakers, public institutions, and private organisations must invest in youth-led programmes and decision-making spaces to unlock innovation and accelerate progress.

  1. Opportunities for Emerging Leaders

Even without extensive experience, young people are fast learners with energy, motivation, and time to grow into the next generation of water decision-makers if given the chance.Ӭ
