Current Positions: Senior Research Scientist and Coordinator of the Microbiology Laboratory at the National Water Institute of Argentina. In this capacity, she leads teams and spearheads projects across various environmental domains, with a particular focus on biological treatability, biodegradation, and ecotoxicological assessments aimed at water quality enhancement, preservation, and regulation. She is now dedicated in conducting research on waterborne diseases within the realm of environmental health with a focus on understanding the impact of water quality on public health. The objective is to relate diseases caused by contaminated water sources and the impact of multiple contaminants. She is also Co-Chair of IWRA’s Latin America and Caribbean Chapter.

Professional Experience: Her work is deeply rooted in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined by the UN Agenda, with a specific emphasis on studying drinking water quality and sanitation standards, including a meticulous review of regulatory frameworks governing effluent discharges in Buenos Aires province basins. Beyond her institutional role, she is deeply committed to fostering dialogue between scientific insights and governance structures to facilitate informed decision-making processes. She actively engages with international organisations such as the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), the International Water Association (IWA), and the Community of women in water (Ciwi), contributing to collaborative efforts aimed at addressing global water challenges.

Academic Background: With over two decades of experience in the field of water-related research, Ariana is a biologist. She holds a Ph.D. in Science specialising in hygiene and sanitation from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Argentina, alongside a Master’s in Biotechnology from the same institution. Her academic journey also includes a Specialisation in Science and Technology Innovation Management from the esteemed Foundation Getulio Vargas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Recognition and Memberships: She proudly served on the executive board of the International Water Resources Association (IWRA) from 2021-2024.
