Gary Jones
Vice-President

Current Positions: He currently serves as one of three Vice Presidents of IWRA.

Professional Experience: Gary has a 35 year professional history across water research, policy and management. He has held CEO and Director positions in several water research, technology and management organisations.

Academic Background: PhD and a former Fulbright Fellow at MIT and later joined CSIRO Australia, where he built an international reputation studying toxic cyanobacteria.

Recognition and Memberships: Since 2016, Gary has been ISC Chair for IWRA’s XVII World Water Congress, Chair of the Membership Committee, and an active member of the Finance Committee. He has advocated for stronger roles for women and promoted free (bronze) IWRA membership, which has brought hugely increased participation, especially from developing countries and students.

His extensive Board and executive experience, combined with broad knowledge of the international water research and IWRM sectors, provides the strategic, governance and financial underpinning required to support the President, Board and Executive Office, as vice-president, in the successful management and leadership of the Association.
