Ignacio Deregibus
Deputy Executive Director
Ignacio Deregibus is the current Deputy Executive Director with the IWRA. He joined the Association back in November 2016 as its Communications and Outreach Officer. He is a environmental policy and project management expert, with a particular focus on water and sustainable development.
Prior to IWRA, he worked for a year and a half with the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) of UNESCO as a Programme Consultant in Paris, France. The IHP is the only intergovernmental programme of the United Nations system devoted to water research and management, and related education and capacity development. Ignacio supported Member States in protecting and sustainably managing the quality of freshwater resources in making progress towards the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals.
From 2013 to 2014, he was an Environmental Policy Consultant with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris, France. He contributed to OECD’s work on National Policy Dialogues (The Netherlands/ Brazil), projects on Water Resources Allocation, and Climate Change Adaptation and Water, where he contributed to the drafting of published reports. After the OECD he joined the Global Climate Forum (GCF) as an Environmental Researcher where we co-authored several articles on climate change and green growth, and circular economy.
In the private sector, from 2008 to 2012, Ignacio has worked as a Business Specialist at Accenture in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He coordinated and assisted mainly with strategic development, communication and outreach, and project management in various sectors (Corporate Social Responsibility, Organisational Sustainability and Customer Relationship Management) in Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America.
Both an Argentinian and Italian national, Ignacio graduated from the University of Buenos Aires with a bachelor degree in Political Science specialised in International Relations, and holds a Master in Public Affairs (MPA) with concentration on Sustainability at l’Institut d’Études Politiques (IEP) Sciences-Po, Paris.
