AM4. HOW TO DEAL WITH UNCERTAINTY IN AWM

Adaptive water management accepts the limitations of prediction and control of complex water systems. One of the prime goals is to deal with uncertainty and surprise typically characterizing such complex adaptive systems in a more systematic and systemic way. The session will elaborate on conceptual approaches and methodologies for dealing with uncertainty in modeling and decision-making. Contributions on robust action and new ways for dealing with uncertainty related to climate change are welcome. Important emerging themes are the increased awareness for thresholds and the use of the concept of resilience as base for building capacity to deal with surprise.
