Competition for water is intensifying and the challenges facing adaptive water management are contradictory and complex, characterized by high levels of uncertainty and a diversity of competing values and decision stakes. A critical reflection on the role of different types of knowledge in understanding these challenges and in reaching collective understandings on desirable futures is urgently needed. This session will explore how water knowledge systems need to change in the coming decade to address both expected changes and how to anticipate for unknown changes under conditions of increasing uncertainty.
