KS8. SCIENTIFIC ASSESSMENTS AND THE SCIENCE-POLICY INTERFACE
Moderator: Maria Carmen Lemos, University of Michigan, USA

Scientific assessments, such as the IPCC, MEA and the Comprehensive Assessment of Water Management in Agriculture, take into consideration different disciplines across the physical, environmental and social sciences and attempt to build science-policy interfaces. This new form of discursive science is critical to support sound water policy and are becoming increasingly important in shaping water sustainability and governance. This session focuses of the successes and pitfalls of scientific assessments and discusses the future of assessments as a decision-making tool.
