KS7. ROLE OF MODELS IN ADAPTIVE WATER MANAGEMENT

Technoscientific knowledge (especially modeling) plays varied roles in informing water governance and has large impacts on the shaping of democracy and equity in decision-making processes. This raises questions about how different types of models and modeling procedures create spaces for fruitful integration and encounters between disciplines, but at the same time also work to ‘solve’ controversies by screening off decisions from public scrutiny. This session will explore empirical examples of these roles, focusing on different aspects of the relationship between modeling and democracy and equity. Papers addressing the relationship between models and decision making within stakeholder-driven water organizations and institutions and the implication of modeling to water access and distribution among different users are especially welcomed.
