GC3. CLIMATE CHANGE – IMPACTS ON WATER FOR FOOD IN LARGE RIVER BASINS
Moderator: Claudia Ringler, International Food policy Research Institute, USA

At least two thirds of the global water withdrawals are allocated to agriculture. Both poor water management and poor land/soil management may result in land degradation due to erosion and desertification. This session will include papers on increasing globalization of the food market through trade, relying on concepts such as virtual water and comprehensive life cycle assessments in policy and management. Management approaches such as changes in cropping patterns, new technology, and crop per drop improvements in water productivity will be addressed.
